
New Zealand's head Instructor
John Flavell is rated the undisputed leading authority on the Okinawa-Te karate organisation system in New Zealand. In 1995 John was appointed New Zealands National Chief Instructor by the systems Grand Master Shihan Doversola.
Karate does not only teach self-defence but also teaches discipline, self respect, respect for others and a positive attitude. The ultimate goal of karate should be the attainment of a developed moral character built through hard and diligent training.
As a practitioner and instructor John has gained the respect of many martial artists from the different styles with not only his martial art skills but, with his motivative drive to promote martial arts as an effective tool that provides those who participate with Higher Skill Levels in Concentration....Co-ordination...Self Control...Awareness...Adaptability...and more.
As a competitor on the multi-styled martial art tournament circuit, John's efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 1986 John's competitive martial art record reached new heights as he demonstrated his progressive skills in all competitive areas of competition.
Today John is still rated as one of New Zealands finest Martial Artists. He currently holds the 1997 & 1998 Okinawa-Te Karate open International awards . Fours seasons Karate Championship Grand Champion Titles. In the New Zealand karate Championships John placed 2nd in the 1998 Canterbury Regionals and a 3rd Placing at the 1998 national in his weight class for Kumite.
John Flavell has proven himself in the tournament ring and also to his peers. John believes that every victory has helped to build his belief in himself while every loss has taught him that he is mortal and that there is more to life than just winning.
